Monthly Development Update – August 2026
August was a month of hardening the foundations while pushing more of Swarm into practical use: Bee 2.8.2 strengthened node resilience and security, Bee-JS 13 and the new Core SDK brought Swarm primitives out of the node and into applications, and for the first time the Swarm Community Call was streamed live over Swarm.

Swarm Community Call, 27 August – Recap
August’s Swarm Community Call was streamed over Swarm itself for the first time. The call covered the security-focused Bee 2.8.2 release and the hardening work that follows it, introduced Etherchunk — a practical approach to reclaiming storage capacity on immutable storage — and took a close look at the streaming system that was delivering the broadcast, including a parallel test of an in-browser Swarm node.
Events
Bee Version 2.8.2 Release Announcement
Bee v2.8.2 is a security-hardening release, focused on keeping nodes running when the data they receive is not what it claims to be. It is available now, and every node operator should upgrade.

State of the Network: July 2026
This report provides an overview of the Swarm network's key metrics for July 2026, including rewards, participation levels, and node distribution, and places them in context with recent monthly trends.

Swarm Community Call, 30 July – Recap
July’s Swarm Community Call covered the protocol work following Bee 2.8.1 — Hive peer discovery, PullSync hardening, simulation tooling and backward compatibility between versions — a research reprioritization toward network usability, and a community talk introducing Vertex, an independent Rust implementation of a Swarm node.

Swarm Community Call, 25 June – Recap
June's Swarm Community Call covered the upcoming non-breaking Bee 2.8.1 release in final testing, and an extended field report from Berlin Blockchain Week — talks, panels, The Plural Monolith livecoding installation, a Subcult demo, and DeSci conversations.
Events
Bee Version 2.8.1 Release Announcement
Bee v2.8.1 is a non-disruptive release focused on performance, data durability, and developer experience, with some operational cleanup. It brings faster chunk hashing, crash-safe local storage, reduced blockchain RPC traffic, and a step toward browser-based uploads.
